New Delhi: Dr. V K Saraswat, member of government's premier think-tank NITI Aayog, on Tuesday has said that India needs to focus on higher education to improve the quality of professionals in the country.
Speaking at an event organised by the Vivekananda Foundation, Dr. V K Saraswat talked about the need to focus on higher education structure in India.
"We at NITI Aayog, for a long time has tried to improve the higher education system in India as we felt that primary education was getting all the due attention while the higher education remained neglected," he said.
Addressing the event "Towards More Effective Education: Emergence of STEM education in India," he claimed that science education needs to be revamped and a national level body should be formed to facilitate this transformation.
"The Ministry of Human Resource and Development had agreed for the national level body," Saraswat said.
The NITI Aayog member also said that one of the reasons for the growing unemployment crisis in India was due to the lack of qualified professionals.
"We have numerous engineers and other professionals but we should focus on quality, not on quantity. The quality of professionals that we have is what worries me today," he added.
