Nagaland: Assam Rifles apprehend three persons, recovers illegal arms

In a joint operation by Assam rifles and Nagaland Police, a huge cache of arms, ammunition and contraband liquor was seized from the possession of three people in Dimapur, Nagaland.

Dimapur: Troops of Assam Rifles in a joint operation along with the Nagaland Police apprehended three persons and recovered illegal arms, ammunition and contraband liquor in Dimapur on Monday.

Taking to Twitter, Eastern Command, Indian Army wrote, "NEOps troops of Assam Rifles in a joint operation with Nagaland Police apprehended three persons and recovered illegal arms, ammunition and contraband liquor from 4th Mile, Dimapur, Nagaland on 13 July."

Further details are awaited.

Earlier, troops of the Assam Rifles in a joint operation with Assam Police apprehended a top-ranking United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent, ULFA (I) Cadre from Lalpahar in Assam's Tinsukia on July 12.

After receiving a specific input regarding the presence of a cadre belonging to the ULFA-I, a joint operation was launched in the Lekhapani area.

The insurgent has been identified as a SS Colonel of ULFA(I). He was suspected to be the Assistant Secretary of the group, police said.

He has been handed over to Tinsukia Police for further investigation.

Earlier in June, a suspected ULFA-I cadre was apprehended during an anti-insurgency operation jointly by the army and the Assam police at Kakodunga area.

However, the suspected 30-year-old ULFA-I cadre, who also had links with NSCN-IM, was declared brought dead when he was rushed to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital on feeling unwell.
