Korba: Her hands are like silk, her heart contains nothing but love, and she means the world for these four young children.
Regardless of her economic state, Mankun Bai has been taking care of four children who are not hers biologically.
She lost her husband after marriage eventually lost her family too. She was left with her elder brother- in-law's four children and soon found herself taking care of them.
Mankun Bai of Korba district might not have kids from her own womb, but she still enjoyed the bliss of motherhood when she started dedicating her life in their upbringing.
Her eldest niece recently got married, while her other two nieces are completing their studies. Her nephew recently finished his class 11.
Talking to ETV Bharat, Mankun Bai told, "I became a widow soon after my marriage. Few months passed and I lost my elder brother-in-law and sister-in-law. They had four kids and I decided to take care of them."
She started working as a daily wage labourer under MNREGA. There were days when she stayed hungry to feed the kids.
Her niece Keertan has passed class 12th and is waiting to join college after the lockdown. She said that their 'chachi' has brought them up with great hardship and that she will become successful and repay Mankun Bai’s debts.
The youngest daughter Priya said that they have never seen their birth mother but have seen their chachi Mankun Bai who is no less than their own mother.
With her unconditional love, Mankun Bai has shown that a woman is a symbol of motherhood and can go to any extent for the well being of her children.
