Home ministry orders monitoring of farmer leaders

Union Home Ministry (MHA) on Wednesday has asked all central intelligence agencies to keep a close monitoring on the activities of farmer leaders. This came after, a tractor rally by agitating farmers on Tuesday turned violent.

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry (MHA) on Wednesday has asked all central intelligence agencies to keep a close monitoring on the activities of farmer leaders a day after a violent protest in the national capital shocked the country.

Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting with Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Delhi police commissioner Sachidanand Shrivastava, Iintelligence Bureau chief Arvind Kumar and reviewed the law and order situation in Delhi.

According to the sources, Shah took stock of the measures taken to maintain law and order situation. He has also asked for a report over the violence that injured more than 300 police officials.

It is learnt that police commissioner Shrivastava briefed Home on the chronology of the violence where a farmer also died after his tractor overturned while heating a police barricade in ITO.

He said that the tractor rally breached most of the rules pre-agreed upon with Delhi police for a peaceful protest. Shrivastava informed Shah that police is going through the CCTV footage to trace down the culprits.

Shah has also asked the security agencies to take stern actions against anybody found involved in violent activities and praised the security personnel deployed for maintaining law and order situation for showing courage and patience.

A tractor rally by agitating farmers on Tuesday turned violent after some of the farmers breached barricades and clashed with police.

Several agitating farmers attacked security officials at Red Fort and vandalised public snd private properties.

On Tuesday Shah chaired a meeting over the violence and instructed for more additional paramilitary forces deployment in the national capital.

Meanwhile, Delhi police have registered 22 FIRs regarding the violence. The FIR named farmer leaders like Darshan Pal, Balbir Singh Rajewal, Jogjnder Singh, Swaraj India leader Yogendra Yadav and many others.
