New Delhi: Congress on Tuesday criticized BJP for calling former prime minister Manmohan Singh 'Bechara' (helpless) while comparing him with incumbent premier Narendra Modi.
Speaking to ETV Bharat here, senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said Union Home Minister Amit Shah should have restrained himself from doing so "as 'bechara' prime minister had strengthened Indian economy whereas 'mazboot' (strong) prime minister has ruined the economy".
"It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday today. He should have been congratulated. By comparing the two Amit Shah has created a controversy as people are asking Manmohan Singh was the prime minister who helped India emerged successfully from the economic slowdown that prevailed during those times," Tiwari said.
The Congress leader also questioned the Narendra Modi government for putting leaders like Farooq Abdullah under house arrest.
"Where are Kashmiri political leaders such as Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah? If everything is alright in the valley why the leaders have been put under house arrest," he asked.
