Mangaluru: Engineering student sets world record, writes longest Tulu poem

An engineering student from Mangaluru has set a world record by writing the longest Tulu poem of 432 lines. His work has been lauded and his name has been registered in World Book of Records.

Mangaluru: A second year engineering student of Sahyadri Engineering College from Karnataka's Mangaluru has set a world record of writing the longest Tulu poem.

Pranesh, a resident of Kulashekara and a budding engineer has written the longest Tulu poem amid corona-induced lockdown. It has 432 lines for which his name has been acknowledged in World Book of Records. Titled ‘Tulunada Isiri’, this poem glorifies Tulu culture and has 108 stanzas. The student has used atleast 2,241 Tulu words in the poem and is receiving wide appreciation for the same.

The poem gives insight knowledge on Tulu culture, daivaradhane (spirit worship), tulu paddanas, serpent worship, pilgrim centres, Tulu festivals, folks and sports. With a special memorandum in the poem, it also demands that Tulu language should be incorporated in the 8th schedule of the Constitution.

Pranesh had written many Tulu poems in the past and received accolades for his versatile work. For his remarkable job, he has been awarded a certificate that his poem is selected to be registered in the World Book of Records.
