Mangalore Customs officials seize 633 grams of gold from passenger's rectum

Saifudheen Thekkil Pazhevalappil, a resident of Kasaragod district in Kerala, was caught by the Customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport on Tuesday while he was trying to smuggle 633 grams of gold worth Rs. 25,57,320.

Mangaluru (Karnataka): The Customs officials at the Mangalore International Airport on Tuesday intercepted a passenger and seized 633 grams of smuggled gold worth Rs 25,57,320 from his possession.

The accused, identified as 23-year-old Saifudheen Thekkil Pazhevalappil, is a resident of Kasaragod district from neighbouring Kerala.

"The gold was being smuggled in the form of a paste mixed with gum concealed as 4 capsules in the rectum, " read a press statement released by the Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore.

The gold was seized under the Customs Act, 1962, and the passenger was arrested and produced before the Court which granted judicial custody of the accused till February 25.
