Hingoli (Maharashtra): The coronavirus pandemic has brought forth several examples of mothers choosing social responsibility over their family.

One such example is that of Puja Balwant, a sanitation worker with the BMC from Hingoli district of Maharashtra, who leaves behind her two-year-old daughter with her mother-in-law to attend duty.

Balwant wakes up every day at 5 am and prepares herself for the day’s work where she exposes herself to the infection thereby putting herself and her family at risk.

Her daughter often clings on to her mother as she leaves for duty in an attempt to stop her.

“My daughter can’t bear my separation. Whenever I leave for work, she clings on to me. She asks me not to go outside because of the COVID-19 outbreak. But, the government needs people to defeat the infection. Once we overcome the pandemic, we are all going to live happily ever after, “ an optimistic Balwant told ETV Bharat.

Maharashtra is the worst affected state in the country with over 22,000 COVID-19 cases and the number of fatalities reaching 832 as on Sunday.
