New Delhi: Terming the mahagatbandhan a chimera, BJP national vice president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe on Tuesday said that "it's people of the country to decide whether they want a government for development or a government who adopts a divide and rule policy."
In an exclusive interview to ETV Bharat, Sahasrabuddhe who is also Madhya Pradesh in-charge of the party said this election is important because India has taken "a path of politics of performance, politics of development" in the last five years.
"You can see a positive transformation in all spheres. People have realised, perhaps for the first time, that development has become a part of their day to day experience," said Sahasrabuddhe.
Referring to the mahagatbandhan strategy of the opposition parties, Sahasrabuddhe said that even in Uttar Pradesh there is no mahagathbandhan.
"Two parties have come together in UP. For me gatbandhan is a Chimera," BJP vice president said.
Talking over the controversies generated over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's interview with cine-star Akshay Kumar, Sahasrabuddhe said, "sometimes people are fed up of politics at a certain level. There is nothing controversial if he speaks of politics."
"However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi can give better reply to the criticism but I believe there is a section of powerful media and opposition who is jaundiced over Modi," said Sahasrabuddhe.
He, however, said that the 2018 Assembly election result in Madhya Pradesh was not a defeat for the party. "BJP has increased its vote share. People now are repenting for having Kamal Nath as Chief Minister who did not fulfil even a single promise in the last four months," he said.
BJP vice president said that Trinamool Congress (TMC) is running a corrupt government in the state and it's Mamata Banerjee who is playing vote bank politics "by giving protection to the infiltrators coming from Bangladesh."
"Bengal is witnessing virtual revolution against a corrupt government," Sahasrabuddhe said.
He further said that BJP is not here to play to the gallery. "Our party President Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have clearly said that we (BJP) take decisions which are in the larger interest of the country," he said.
Reiterating that his government will bring the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), Sahasrabuddhe said, "CAB is the need of the hour but the opposition parties have spread false propaganda over this issue."
