One more COVID-19 death in Jharkhand, toll rises to 11

Jharkhand reported one more COVID-19 fatality on Thursday, taking the coronavirus death toll in the state to 11, a government bulletin said.

This is the second death in the last two days with the mortality rate of the state standing at 0.57 per cent compared to the national rate of 3.33 per cent, it said.

Mumbai's slum colony of Dharavi reported 28 new cases of COVID-19, taking the tally to 2,134 on Thursday, the city civic body said.

A Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said no fresh death was reported from the slum-dominated area in the past 24 hours, keeping the toll constant at 78.

70 new COVID-19 cases in Maha's Aurangabad, tally now 3,106

Seventy more people tested coronavirus positive in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra on Thursday, which pushed its overall count of patients to 3,106, an official said.

Of the total number of cases, 1,709 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovery, the official said. "Thirty-one females and 39 males tested positive on Thursday, which took the tally to 3,106," he said. The virus has so far claimed 166 lives in the district, he added.

Forty nine people have lost their lives due to the deadly coronavirus in Tamil Nadu, which also registered more than 2,000 fresh cases for the second

consecutive day on Thursday, the health department said.

A bulletin issued by the department said 26,736 samples were tested on Thursday alone and the total number of fresh cases stood at 2,141.

The COVID-19 tally in Kerala rose to 2,794 on Thursday with 97 fresh cases being reported, while the toll touched 21 after an excise department

personnel succumbed to the disease. With 89 recoveries today, 1,359 people are presently under treatment and 1.26 people are under observation,Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

U'khand's COVID-19 tally reaches 2,079

The number of COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand rose to 2,079 on Thursday with 57 more people testing positive.

Twenty-eight fresh cases were detected in Dehradun district, 14 in Pauri, five in Haridwar, four in Rudraprayag, three in Chamoli and one each in Almora, Uttarkashi and Tehri, according to a state health department bulletin.

16 residents of slum in Kolkata test positive for COVID-19

At least 16 slum dwellers in the city's Bagbazar area here have tested positive for COVID-19, following which they were sent to a quarantine centre on the

outskirts of the metropolis, sources in the state health department said on Thursday.

Those that came in contact with the COVID-19 patients, including family members, have been sent to another isolation unit in neighbouring Howrah district.

Locals in the area have been advised home quarantine, in accordance with the rules applicable to all containment zones in Bengal, the sources said.

Nine more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram, taking the northeastern state's tally to 130, Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana said on Thursday.

South Mizoram's Lawngtlai and Siaha districts have reported four new cases each while one case was reported from Lunglei district, he said.

Of the new cases, four each had returned from Delhi and Haryana while one had come back from Maharashtra, the minister added.

72-year-old man erroneously declared COVID-19 positive in Meghalaya

A 72-year-old man was erroneously declared as having tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya, which officials have attributed to a mechanical error.
 

The man, from Umsamlem village in Ri-Bhoi district, was declared a COVID-19 patient on June 9 after his samples tested positive for the infection in an RT-PCR test, an official said.

An excise staff died due to COVID-19 in Kannur district, taking the death toll in the state to 21. 

 Sunil Kumar (28), who was admitted to Pariyaram medical college died on Thursday morning.

4 BRTF personnel test COVID-19 positive in Arunachal

The number of novel coronavirus cases in Arunachal Pradesh has crossed the 100-mark with four Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) personnel testing positive for the infection, a senior health official said on Thursday.

The four new cases have taken the virus count in the northeastern state to 103, of which 93 are active cases and ten persons have recovered, he said.

India's coronavirus count reaches 3,66,946

With the highest single-day increase of 12,881 COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, India's coronavirus count has reached 3,66,946 on Thursday.

This includes 1,60,384 active cases and 1,94,325 cured, discharged and migrated patients, according to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

Meanwhile, with 334 deaths being reported due to the infection, the toll due to the virus stands at 12,237 in the country.

There is a big increase in the number of confirmed cases in the country today as compared to the recent days when the spike had been limited to under 11,000 cases.

Maharashtra with 1,16,752 cases continues to be the worst-affected state in the country with 51,935 active cases while 59,166 patients have been cured and discharged in the state so far. The toll due to COVID-19 stands at 5,651 in the state.

The number of confirmed cases in Tamil Nadu also crossed the 50 thousand mark on Thursday and reached 50,193. The national capital is the third-worst affected by the infection in the country with the count reaching 47,102 today.

43 test positive for COVID-19 in Tripura

As many as 43 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura, out of total 1,250 samples tested, as per information provided by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

The chief minister tweeted the information adding that majority of the COVID-19 patients have a travel history and the others were in contact with coronavirus-infected patients.

Among them, three were from 34 Battalion BSF, six from Maharani BSF Camp, four from 120 Battalion BSF, 26 from 74 Battalion BSF, and four civilians.

The count includes 30 cases in the West District, 10 cases in the Gomati Dist, two cased in the South District and one case in the Sepahijala District.

Chief Medical Superintendent tests COVID-19 positive in Mathura, district's tally now 181

Mathura: The chief medical superintendent of the district hospital tested positive for COVID-19 here on Wednesday, taking the number of infections to 181, an official said.

"The chief medical superintendent of the district hospital has been sent for treatment in K D Medical College" DM Sarvagya Ram Mishra said.

He said, the contacts of the medical superintendent, including staff of the district hospital, are being traced.

They would be sent for quarantine and their sampled will be collected for testing, the district magistrate said.

So far, 87 people have recovered from the infection, leaving 87 active cases in Mathura district, he said, adding seven coronavirus patients have died.

Of the 5,824 samples taken so far, the results of 5,215 came out negative, while reports of 372 are awaited, the DM said.
