LS passes Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill, 2019

Minister of Law and Justice Ravi Shankar Prasad moves Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha. 

Lok Sabha passes Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill, 2019.  The bill aimed at making India an international arbitration hub by providing facilities for settlement of commercial disputes. The bill has already been cleared by the Rajya Sabha.

Lok Sabha has been adjourned till tomorrow 11 am.

Lok Sabha passes The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill 2019. 

In Lok Sabha, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani, said: “It is a matter of concern that the number of child sex offenders is increasing."

Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill 2019 introduced in LS

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2019 was moved for consideration and passage by Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani.

She said the Bill provides for levying fines and imprisonment to curb child pornography.

Congress leader Su Thirunavukkarasar said, "The children are wealth of nation and future of this  country. Therefore, this Bill is necessary."

BJP leader Rita Bhagunajoshi said that she supports the Bill as it strengthens the POSCO Act.

The bill, which has been passed by Rajya Sabha, seeks to amend Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

LS passes Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill 2019

Lok Sabha today passed amendments to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, with the government asserting that the spirit behind the law is not to allow companies to die.
       
Rajya Sabha has already passed the bill and with its passage in the lower house, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code is set to be amended.

Insolvency law amendments to ensure greater timeliness: Sitharaman

Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha

Amendments to insolvency law are aimed at ensuring greater timeliness for resolution process, which has to be completed in 330 days, and changes are to made in seven sections of the law, Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in Lok Sabha.
         
Moving the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2019 for passage in Lok Sabha, she said the changes would also bring in more clarity on various provisions, including time-bound disposal at the application stage for resolution plan and treatment of financial creditors.
         
As many as seven sections of the Code are to be amended.

Lok Sabha to become paperless from next session

 Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced that the Lower House will become paperless from the next session.

Birla told the members that various new initiatives will be taken to improve the functioning of the house and announced that Lok Sabha will become paperless from the next session onwards.

Birla said this move will save crores of rupees.

However, he assured the House that if any member needed paper he or she would be provided.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that the bills are being discussed in the business advisory committee meeting

Rejecting the accusations by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that the bills are being discussed in the business advisory committee meeting.

He said the government took into consideration the demand raised by Chowdhury, who is the leader of the Congress in the House, not to take up the Dam Safety Bill on Wednesday.

Speaker Om Birla said in the future he will ensure that leaders from various parties are informed at least a day in advance on upcoming bills. He said his office will also separately keep leaders informed about bills to be brought in the House.

Some members also voiced their displeasure at the decision of not taking up discussion on floods in various parts of the country.

Congress leader accuses govt of pushing through bills

New Delhi: The opposition in Lok Sabha on Thursday accused the government of pushing through bills without consulting other parties. 

As soon as the House met for the day, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury (Cong), Saugata Roy (TMC) and Kanimozhi (DMK) accused the government of bringing bills for consideration and passage at the last moment, giving little time to members to prepare for the debate.
