Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan says has tested positive for coronavirus, admitted to Medanta Hospital

Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday tested positive for coronavirus and has been admitted to the Medanta Hospital, CNN news18 reported. The development comes two days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah tested positive for the infectious disease.

According to reports, Pradhan had been in isolation after officials from his staff tested positive for the virus.

10 COVID-19 deaths, 390 fresh cases in J-K

Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday recorded 390 COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of infections to 22,396, while 10 fatalities in the last 24 hours pushed the death toll from the disease to 417.

They said all the 10 deaths were reported from the Kashmir Valley.

"The valley accounts for 387 of the total deaths while 30 fatalities have so far been reported from the Jammu region," the officials said.

1083 fresh COVID-19 cases in Kerala

Kerala reported 1083 fresh positive cases and three more fatalities on Tuesday, taking the infection tally to 27,950 and the death
toll to 87.

"Sixteen health workers and 35 Indo Tibetan border police (ITBP) personnel are among those infected," Health Minister KK Shailaja said.

As many as 11,540 people are presently under treatment and 16,303 have recovered from the pandemic, including 1021 who were discharged today.

674 fresh COVID cases take Delhi tally to 1,39,156; death toll mounts to 4,033

Delhi recorded 674 fresh coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the tally in the city to over 1.39 lakh while the death toll from the disease climbed to 4,033, authorities said.

The three-figure count for new cases was recorded on a day when the total number of tests conducted stood at 9,295, according to the bulletin released by the Delhi health department.

Twenty-nine people, including a lab technician in Mandi's Nerchowk Medical College, tested positive for COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh, raising the state's virus to count to 2,848 on Tuesday, officials said.

"The state has seen 13 deaths linked to the novel coronavirus so far. Of the fresh cases, 14 were reported from Bilaspur, seven from Mandi and two each from Chamba, Sirmaur, Shimla and Kullu," Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman said.

COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh cross 1 lakh-mark; death toll climbs to 1,817

The total number of coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh crossed the one lakh mark as the state recorded 2,948 fresh cases on Tuesday, an official statement said.

A total of 41 fatalities were recorded in the state in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll due to the disease to 1,817.

"There are 41,222 active coronavirus cases in the state and 57,271 people have recovered and discharged from hospitals," Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said.

Swab samples of J'khand CM, his family members, CMO officials collected for COVID-19 test

A team of health workers on Tuesday collected swab samples of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his family members for COVID-19 tests, the second time in a month, after several employees at his office were found to have contracted the disease.

"Other staff members at the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) have also given their samples for examination," an official said. 

Abhishek Prasad, the chief minister's press adviser, said 17 officials at the CMO were diagnosed with the disease on August 2.

Soren, who is also the JMM executive president, his wife and other family members had undergone the test for the first time on July 11, the results of which came negative. He had quarantined himself at his Ranchi residence last month after contact tracing of a cabinet minister and an MLA led to Soren.

231 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths reported in Maharashtra Police

A total of 231 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths were reported in the Maharashtra Police force in the last 24 hours, taking the total count to 9,934.

With three more fatalities, the total deaths in the state police force reached 107.

Out of the total number of police personnel infected with coronavirus, 7,950 have recovered and 1,877 cases are active, informed the Maharashtra Police.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state as it has a total of 1,47,324 active cases and 15,842 deaths. A total of 4,50,196 coronavirus cases have been recorded in the state up to Monday, according to Union Ministry of Health.

Odisha's COVID-19 death toll mounts to 216 with 9 fresh fatalities

Odisha's COVID-19 death toll mounted to 216 as nine more patients succumbed to the infection, while 1,384 new cases pushed its tally to 37,681 on Tuesday, a health official said.

Ganjam district, Odisha's COVID-19 hotspot, reported six of the nine fatalities due to the coronavirus, while Puri, Khurda and Jajpur registered one death each, he said.

Another COVID-19 patient died due to other ailments, taking the count of such fatalities to 42 in Odisha, the official said.

As many as 889 new cases were reported from quarantine centres, while 495 people tested positive for the infection during contract tracing, he said.

Ganjam district reported the highest number of fresh infections at 228, followed by 201 in Khurda and 82 in Sambalpur. New cases were reported from 28 of the 30 districts in the state, the official said.

Woman dies of coronavirus in Pondy, toll climbs to 57

A 55-year-old woman died of COVID-19 at a hospital in Puducherry while 168 fresh cases were reported, pushing the aggregate in the union territory to
4,146.

A release from Director of Health and Family Welfare S Mohan Kumar on Tuesday said the woman patient was admitted to JIPMER hospital here at 5.10 am on Monday with the progressive onset of breathlessness and she had a pulmonary embolism.

The woman died four hours later, the official said adding she had no co-morbidity.

The Director said the overall active cases in the Union Territory was 1,552 and the total number of people who tested positive for the virus were 4,146.

Tripura's COVID-19 caseload rises to 5,523; death toll mounts to 28

Tripura's COVID-19 caseload increased to 5,523 on Tuesday with the detection of 131 fresh infections, while one more fatality pushed its coronavirus death toll to 28, an official said.

A 55-year-old COVID-19 patient, hailing from Udaipur in Gomati district, died at the Agartala Government Medical College here on Monday. He was suffering from liver ailments, the official said.

The fresh infections have pushed the number of active cases in Tripura to 1,802, while 3,675 people have recovered from the disease and 18 patients have migrated to other states, he said.

Ram temple priest Acharya Satyendra Das's assistant tests positive for COVID-19


The chief priest Acharya Satyendra Das of Ram temple in Ayodhya has self-quarantined himself after one of his assistants tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. 

The people who came in contact with Acharya Satyendra Das assistant have been quarantined in Gopal Mandir in Ayodhya.

India's COVID-19 tally climbs to 18,55,745

India's COVID-19 tally increased to 18,55,745 with52,050 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in a day,while the recoveries crossed the 12-lakh mark on Tuesday, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The death toll due to COVID-19 climbed to 38,938 with 803fresh fatalities being reported in 24-hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.

A total of 12,30,509 people have recovered, while there are 5,86,298 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country presently.

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has risen to 66.31 per cent, while the fatality rate has further dropped to 2.10 pc, the data stated.

The total number of confirmed cases also includes foreigners. This is the sixth consecutive day that COVID-19 cases have increased by more than 50,000

Former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah tests positive for COVID-19

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly, Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted himself to a hospital.

"I have been tested positive for COVID-19 and also been admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors as a precaution. I request all those who had come in contact with me to check out for symptoms and to quarantine themselves," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

Earlier on Sunday, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had said that he tested positive for the novel coronavirus.  

4,752 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Monday, taking total cases to 1,39,571 including 62,500 discharges and 2,594 deaths, the State Health Department informed.

India's COVID-19 testing hits record high as over 6.6 lakh tests conducted in last 24-hr

India has recorded highest single-day testing by conducting over 6.6 lakh tests to diagnose Covid-19 in last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Tuesday.

"In its fight against COVID-19, India scales a new high of 6,61,715 tests in the last 24 hours," said the Health Ministry in a tweet.  

A total of 2,08,64,206 samples for COVID-19 have been tested across the country so far said the Health Ministry on Tuesday.  

"Ministry of Health continues to emphasise TESTING aggressively, TRACKING comprehensively and TREATING efficiently," the Ministry tweeted today.

With 52,972 positive cases reported in India on Monday, the COVID-19 count in the country breached the 18 lakh mark, the MoHFW said yesterday.

Andhra's daily count dips for third day, tally 1,66,586

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh reported 7,822 new Covid-19 cases and 63 deaths in the 24 hours ending 9 a.m. on Monday, state health officials said.

With the latest update, the overall Covid tally in the stood at 1,66,586. A relatively lower number of 45,516 tests, including 18,088 rapid antigen tests, were conducted in the latest update cycle reported on Monday.

On Monday, two districts reported fresh cases in four digits, while the remaining 11 districts reported three-digit Covid numbers. East Godavari topped the list with 1,113 new cases, followed by Visakhapatnam with 1,049 cases. Krishna and Chittoor districts reported the lowest tally of 240 cases each.

The state has been reporting a relatively lower number of Covid cases and deaths over the past three days. Last Friday, the state had reported an all-time high of 10,376 cases, while the tally on Thursday and Wednesday stood at 10,167 and 10,093, respectively.

Monday also witnessed a substantial dip in the death count with 63 persons succumbing to the dreaded virus, taking the state's death toll to 1,537.

A total of 5,786 persons were discharged from different hospitals and Covid treatment centres on Monday. As on date, there are 76,377 active cases in the state, while 88,672 persons have been declared as cured and discharged.
