New Delhi: Amid tens of thousands of citizens stranded in urban centres and many taking a long walk home without food and shelter, the Congress has alleged that the government is unable to control the reverse migration.
The party has said that just like demonetisation, lockdown too has been imposed without proper planning as citizens, particularly migrant laborers, are facing extreme difficulty in day to day life.
Addressing a press briefing through video conferencing, senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said: " The government gave 3 to 4 days to clang utensils but did not give even 3 to 4 hours notice before the lockdown. The government took this step without any prior planning."
With many people stuck in different cities and not able to move to their desired places, the party urged the government to look into it.
The Congress party also said that BJP's lack of planning has rendered tens of thousands of people hungry and homeless. The government should have come out with a targeted plan to help them before implementing a nationwide lockdown.
Notably, the Congress party has prepared a task force to help these people, in which the party workers of every state are delivering food and medicines to the poor people and laborers.
The government has announced a slew of measures to help the needy and poor and even announced a Rs 1,60,000 crore relief package. But the party says it's "too less" at a time when the demand is for more.
The party said that the amount of government is spending is only 0.8% of the GDP of our country, whereas the US has contributed 10% of its GDP for the treatment.
The party also appealed to the government to provide Rs 1500 to the poor and laborers as soon as possible.
