Lightning kills 12 people in Bihar, CM announces Rs 4 lakh each for kin of deceased

The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar has announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakh each to the dependents of the people who were killed by lightning in Bihar.

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar informed that 12 people were killed by lighting in six districts of the state on Wednesday.

He also announced that Rs 4 lakh each will be given to the family of the deceased.

"12 people died of lightning in 6 districts of the state. It has been directed to give ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased. I appeal to the people to be cautious in bad weather. Follow the suggestions issued from time to time by the Department of Disaster Management. Stay indoors in bad weather and be safe," Kumar tweeted.

According to the information received from the districts, 12 persons were killed by lightning. Of these, seven persons died in Begusarai, one each in Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Kaimur and Jamui districts.

The meteorological department has issued an alert for thunderstorms in more than a dozen districts, including Patna, Bhojpur, Vaishali and Nalanda in the state.

Earlier, on July 4, Lightning strikes claimed at least 23 lives at various districts in Bihar. According to the information received from the districts, 23 persons were killed by lightning during the past 24 hours.

Similarly, on July 3, at least thirteen people were killed after being struck by lightning across Bihar.

Two deaths were reported from Lakhisarai and one death each was reported from Gaya, Banka, Samastipur, Nalanda and Jamui districts.

Meanwhile, on July 2, at least six people were killed in separate lightning strike across 3 districts of Bihar, while several others were injured as heavy rains and thunderstorms lashed the state.
