Agartala (Tripura): After almost a year, Tripura Congress succeeded to give a message that Congress was certainly not a dead force in the state and it had the potential to mark its presence with a considerably big public meeting at the heart of the capital city — Agartala. Thousands of Congress workers from several parts of the state reached Agartala this morning to attend the meeting in presence of heavy-weight Congress leaders like President of All India Mohila Congress Susmita Dev, All India Youth Congress president Srinivas BV, AICC in-charge Tripura and Punjab MLA Kuljit Singha Nagra along with PCC leaders under the leadership of TPCC president Pijush Biswas.
Addressing the function, All India Mahila Congress President Susmita Dev lashed out at the BJP led ruling government and said Tripura BJP had already heard its death knell and thus it was consistently deferring elections. “I want to ask as to why the municipal polls are not being conducted. What makes the government postpone the TTAADC polls. The reality is they have understood that their end is just a matter of time. They can’t win the elections this time and thus they are postponing elections one after another”, said Dev.
Training his guns on the BJP for allegedly promoting religious polarization, Dev said, “Hindu-Muslim is their trumph card. They always resort to this strategy to sail the election boat. Actually, they don’t have any answers to the real questions. Why there are no jobs, why atrocities on women are increasing. Be it UP or Tripura, under the BJP regime, our ‘Betis’ can not feel secure. I want to ask the BJP where do they hide when a girl is raped in Santirbazar. What measures they have taken to bring justice for the indigenous girl raped in Mungia Kami. In posters, they write in bold letters: ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ but all these tall promises remain on pen and paper only”.
Calling the Congress party of Tripura to strengthen itself to a scale that the party can do such big public meetings in block level and interior areas of the state, she said, “the Congress workers are the only people who can script a change in the future of Tripura bringing Congress in power. But, for that, every Congressman of the state has to strengthen its base and the party must get a boost in the grassroots level”.
Speaking on the occasion, All India Youth Congress president Srinivas BV said, “the BJP has promised to give jobs to every household. Have they kept the promise? They are masters in making Jhumlas after Jhumlas and they are doing that quite efficiently in Tripura”. The law and order situation in the state is consistently downgrading. Atrocities against women are increasing with every passing day. This government has failed in every front and proved that it has betrayed everyone”, said BV.
The National Youth Congress chief also felt that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress were the only alternatives for Tripura. “We have to save Tripura from the misrule of BJP and Congress party led by Rahul Gandhi is the only alternative that people of Tripura now have”, said BV.
During his brief speech, he had also referred to the 10,323 movements that took place at Agartala and the farmers' protests. “Whoever they are, be it protesting teachers of Tripura for jobs or the farmers who want a repeal of the newly introduced farm laws, BJP government does not hesitate to use police power on them. Many people have been injured in Tripura and Delhi borders in a gap of one or two days. The places may be different but all of them are demanding their rights”, he observed.
Meanwhile, AICC in-charge for Tripura and Punjab MLA Kuljit Singha Nagra said, “the Congress shall come to power in the 2023 elections in Tripura”. He had also discussed various issues ranging from MSP to the ongoing farmers’ protests. Apart from that, TPCC President Pijush Biswas, former CLP leader Gopal Roy and other senior leaders of the Congress party along with Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress President Pujan Biswas delivered their speeches.
