New Delhi: A group of lawyers gathered in the Supreme Court lawn on Tuesday around 1 pm where they read the preamble of the Indian constitution. It wasn't against a particular issue but on the overall situation prevailing in the country.
Senior advocate and Congress member Salman Khurshid said, "Today lawyers see what is happening with the constitution." He said that coming out categorically was necessary as the what is happening in the system has to be supported by the constitution. The lawyer community is very important in the country and the governance of the country.
"Tragedy is that those who really believe in the constitution and swear by it which includes all of us are having to fight with somebody who says that he swears by the constitution," added Khurshid.
The gathering included various Senior advocates like Prashant Bhushan and Salman Khurshid.
Protests have been held in different parts of the country against the Act which grants Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
