New Delhi: Responding to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's multiple attacks on the government over the border standoff with China, BJP MP from Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal on Tuesday listed out areas of the Union Territory he claimed were lost to China under the UPA.

Earlier yesterday, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in a tweet had questioned Defence Minister Rajnath Singh: "Have the Chinese occupied Indian territory in Ladakh?"

In response, Namgyal tweeted, "I hope @RahulGandhi and @INCIndia will agree with my reply based on facts and hopefully they won't try to mislead again."

With the tweet, he attached a picture containing a list of areas he claimed was occupied by the Chinese during the UPA regime.

In the message, Namgyal wrote, "Yes, Chinese occupied Indian Territory as under."

Here is the list of areas Namgyal said have been occupied by China:

  • Aksai Chin (37,244 square km) in 1962 during Congress regime.
  • Tia Pangnak and Chabji Valley (250km length) in Chumur area till 2008 during UPA time.
  • Zorawar Fort in Demjok was destroyed by PLA in 2008 and PLA's observing point was set up in 2012 during UPA regime and also created Chinese/new Demjok/Colony with 13 cemented houses.
  • India lost Doom Cheley (ancient trade point) between Dungti and Demjok in 2008-2009 during the UPA regime.

Along with the above, Nagyal also attached a map titled, "Overview of Demjok area. Chinese intruded land of India till 2012 during Congress regime"

However, Namgyal in his detailed response did not mention whether the Chinese troops had indeed crossed over into Indian territory during the ongoing standoff.

Indian and Chinese troops have been engaged since May 5 following a violent clash in Pangong Tso.

The India-China border dispute covers the 3,488-km-long LAC. China claims the entire Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh as part of its southern Tibet region, which India firmly opposes.
