Kerala: After Nipah and floods, Covid-19 postpones couple's wedding plan

Covid-19 has forced a couple to postpone their wedding plan for the third time in a row after Nipah virus and devastating flood. Seeing the rise in the number of positive cases in Kerala, the state government has imposed a ban on social and public gatherings due to which the wedding got deferred.

Kozhikode: A young couple in Kerala was forced to postpone their wedding for the third time in a row as covid-19 cases continue to surge in the state. Premchandran and Sandra Santosh, hailing from Eranhipalan had to drop their wedding plan, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Marriage of 26-year-old Premchandran and 23-year-old Sandra was initially fixed on May 20, 2018 but due to the outbreak of Nipah virus it got postponed. Nipah virus affected Kozhikode and Malappuram districts and claimed 17 lives which led to the ban on social gatherings. After getting scuttled for the first time, the death of a close relative of the groom made it impossible for them to conduct the wedding.

Accordingly, the function was rescheduled to be held during the Onam holidays of 2019 but the devastating flood of Kerala last year played spoil sport. After getting postponed twice, families decided to conduct the marriage on March 20 this year. But due to to the outbreak of Covid-19 in the Kerala, which is badly affected the marriage ceremony has been deferred.

Seeing the rise in the number of positive cases in Kerala, state government has imposed a ban on social and public gatherings. However, the duo is taking the series of incidents in a good spirit and is looking forward to tie the knot in September this year. Kerala has reported 40 positive cases and three people have been cured so far and 40,000 people are under surveillance. (PTI REPORT)
