Karnataka CM in stable condition after testing positive for COVID-19: Manipal Hospital

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's daughter has also tested positive for COVID-19 and the father-daughter duo has been admitted to the Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru. Manipal Hospital in its statement said that CM's condition is stable and will be monitored closely by their team.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and his daughter have been admitted to the Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru for observation after testing positive for COVID-19. The Chief Minister is in clinically stable condition.

"Karnataka Chief Minister has been admitted to the hospital for observation. He is doing well, is clinically stable and will be monitored closely by our team," Manipal Hospital said on Monday.

Meanwhile, CM Yediyurappa's youngest daughter B.Y. Padmavati has also tested positive for COVID-19 and has been admitted to the same hospital.

"As Padmavati's sample result turned positive, she has also been admitted to the privately-run Manipal Hospital where Yediyurappa is under treatment for the virus," an official of the Chief Minister's Office told reporters here.

"Though the Chief Minister's eldest son B.Y.Vijayendra, who also stays with him in the official residence, tested negative, he has been advised to be in isolation at home," said the official.

In a tweet, Vijayendra said as a precaution, he will be in-home quarantine for a week.

"His daughter has tested positive for COVID-19. She has been admitted to the hospital," added the hospital in another statement.

Karnataka Health Department has said that all those who met Chief Minister in the last 2-3 days will be tested for COVID-19. CM's travel history of last one week will be checked."

Yediyurappa had on Sunday tweeted that he had tested positive for COVID-19. The Chief Minister, 77, said he is fine and is being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors.

"I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine," Yediyurappa wrote.

Yediyurappa’s announcement on the social media platform came after Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that he too had tested positive for coronavirus. The Chief Minister's other family members and relatives who have been in contact with him were also advised to go into quarantine.

The Chief Minister's official and personal staff, including cook, servants and drivers has been advised to be in isolation for a week.
The developments come at a time when there is a huge spike in the coronavirus cases in India. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has crossed 17 lakh mark and the death toll is pegged at 37,000.

Karnataka is one of the worst-hit coronavirus states with 73,227 active cases and 2,412 deaths. A total of 53,648 patients have been cured and discharged till date.
