Kargil Vijay Diwas: Martyr's family recollects memories of braveheart

Sepoy Soren Singh of Mathura had made the supreme sacrifice at the age of 29 fighting Pakistani Army at Drass sector of J&K. Showing the courage of the highest order, the braveheart had killed nine Pakistani soldiers even after being hit by several bullets.

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh): The nation will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26th July 2019. On this day in 1999, the over two-month-long war ended after Indian troops recaptured the positions that were intruded upon by Pakistani soldiers.

On the occasion of Kargil Diwas, ETV Bharat reached martyr Soran Singh's hometown in Mathura's Nagariya village.

A Jat Regiment's sepoy, Soren Singh made the supreme sacrifice at the age of 29 fighting Pakistani Army at Drass sector of J&K.

Showing the courage of the highest order, the braveheart had killed nine Pakistani soldiers even after being hit by several bullets.

Talking to ETV Bharat, martyr's son Vivek said, "I have grown up listening to the bravery of my father. My mother says that he was on a leave of 20 days before joining his unit in Drass sector and while going on duty he had told my mother to take care of children if he fails to return back."

Recalling the old days, Singh's wife Kamlesh says that she is proud of her husband's martyrdom as he killed Pakistanis and India won the Kargil war.

"My husband got martyred only after seven years of our marriage. He was only 29-year-old at that time but I am very proud of my husband. I am also thankful to the government for fulfilling all the promises," added Kamlesh.

The Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on July 26 to commemorate India's emphatic victory against Pakistan and recalls the supreme sacrifice of 500 war heroes who laid down their lives for the country.
