India is observing 20th Kargil Vijay Diwas on Friday to commemorate the victory of Indian armed forces over Pakistan in the mountains of Kargil on Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. India saluting the courage and victory of the martyrs.

New Delhi: On the event of 20th Anniversary of Kargil war on Friday, India is celebrating the massive victory of the valour of the Indian armed forces who laid their lives during the duty on the peaks of Kargil in 1999.

Every year, July 26 is observed as Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate the success of Operation Vijay and the victory of the Indian Army against infiltrating Pakistani troops, while defending the country’s integrity.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among several leaders to pay tribute to the soldiers of the Indian armed forces who defeated Pakistan to recapture all posts occupied by them.

Leaders Paid tribute

President Kovind pays homage at the Chinar Corps War Memorial in Srinagar on Kargil Vijay Diwas. Due to bad weather, he could not travel to Dras. Earlier in the day, he also tweeted his tributes to "record our everlasting debt to those who never returned”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted a 1-minute-24-second video along with his tweets with scenes from the Kargil War Memorial in Dras town in Jammu and Kashmir in 1999.

He also shared photographs of soldiers, who fought the war with the Tricolour, and his speeches to mark the day.

Among the other leaders, Home Minister Amit Shah and Vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu also tweeted saying that the sacrifice of the soldiers will never be forgotten and the nation remains indebted to them.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who will visit Kargil today on the occasion, tweeted his tribute to soldiers who fought.

War veterans and former army officials Major DP Singh, who lost a leg in the Kargil War paid his respects to the soldiers who died in the war by carrying the victory flame along with Sub Maj Yogendra Yadav to Kargil.
