Kanpur: In a major breakthrough, Special Task Force arrested Jay Bajpayee, the alleged financer and a close aide of Vikas Dubey, who killed eight policemen in Bikru village in an encounter. Bajpayee's wife and mother have also been detained after investigation revealed that financial transaction of around Rs 15 lakhs was exchanged between Bajpayee and Dubey within a week.
Bajpayee is the owner of three luxury cars that were used by Vikas Dubey and do not have registration number plates. Primary investigation suggests that criminals used the vehicles of Jay Bajpayee to make an easy escape. Accused Bajpayee was brought to Lucknow by SIT for interrogation.
Meanwhile, former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Anant Dev, has also come under the scanner after pictures of him and Bajpayee surfaced on social media, sparking controversy. Sources also said that the role of former Kanpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anant Dev will be investigated in the Vikas Dubey case.
Reports also suggest that Jai Bajpayee used to take care of Dubey's business and invest money in disputed properties to make profits. Bajpayee also owns fifteen houses in different cities(one in Dubai worth Rs 15 crore) and a petrol pump in Lucknow, as per sources.

Despite being close to Dubey and being his main financer, Bajpayee's passport was verified by the police which raises serious questions about the cops' role.
Bilahur Circle Officer, Devendra Mishra, who was among the cops who were killed in the ambush, had apparently complained to Dev about Station Officer (SO) Vinay Tiwari's links with history-sheeter Vikas Dubey several times but it went unheard.
According to sources, in a letter addressed to Anand Dev, Devendra Mishra had apprised him about how Tiwari was shielding the gangster and sought action against him. Mishra also stated that Tiwari is conniving with the high-profile criminal and the nexus could lead to grave consequences. It is suspected that Tiwari may have tipped off Vikas Dubey about policemen being on its way to arrest him.
Dubey's close accomplice Daya Shankar Agnihotri was arrested on Sunday after a brief encounter and a country-made weapon was also recovered from his procession. (With input from agencies)
