New Delhi: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for not allowing to prosecute former JNU Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar in a sedition case.
Speaking to reporters here in the national capital, the Information and Broadcasting minister accused the Delhi Chief Minister of supporting anti-national elements.
"He has been asked by the court time and again but he is not granting permission to prosecute those who raised anti-India slogans in JNU campus," he said.
The minister said it was clear that he supports anti-national elements otherwise he would have given sanction to prosecute Kumar and others involved in the incident that took place in 2016.
The Delhi Police had on Wednesday informed a city court that the request for sanction to prosecute Kumar and others was pending before the Home Department of the Delhi government.
The police had informed that it had done its part and was now awaiting the decision.
On January 14, the police had filed a charge sheet in the court against Kumar and others for allegedly raising "anti-India" slogans at the JNU campus during an event on February 9, 2016.
