Chief Justic DN Patel during his farewell said that, "Today we are bidding goodbye to a very important person with whom we can discuss anything and everything related to law."

He was also part of the panel that legalised LGBTQ sex in the 2009 Naz Foundation case.

He is also known for ruling in favour of a petitioner who had filed an RTI seeking information from the Supreme Court registry on how many of the judges had declared their assets.

In the Bhima Koregaon incident too, the Judge was praised for setting aside the remand issued against activist Gautam Navlakha stating that the police had not been able to produce any evidence to do the same.

He was criticised for his judgement by some RSS leaders, it has been reported that the first move to transfer him was taken after this incident.

A controversy erupted after the notification of Justice Muralidhar's transfer was issued by the Centre on the night of February 26 -- the day a bench headed by him had pulled up Delhi Police for failing to register FIRs against three BJP leaders for their alleged hate speeches.
