Ministry of External Affairs former spokesperson Vishnu Prakash has siad that it is in India's interest to maintain trade relations with the United States. After the visit of U.S. President Bill Clinton, India's relations with United States have seen a surge. He asserted that both the countries should come forward to make the best of the trade deal.

New Delhi: Preparations are in full swing ahead of the US President Donald Trump's visit to India. But how relevant his visit stands in the modern times when global positioning is changing towards multi-lateral order?

ETV Bharat spoke to Ministry of External Affairs former spokesperson Vishnu Prakash, who believes that it is in India's interest to maintain trade relation with United States. He claimed that visit of any US President was a rare phenomenon before President Bill Clinton's visit to India in 2000.

Former President Clinton broke that glass ceiling by becoming the first US commander in chief to visit India after President Carter in 22 years. Vishnu Prakash claimed that since then India-US relation has witnessed an upward streak and there is a bi-partisan support in both countries to have closest of ties.

Prakash who had also served as high commissioner in Canada asserted that US has been investing a lot of political capital and efforts in India. On President Trump's statement on trade deal, Prakash claimed that such statements are not given on raised hopes.

He stressed that in this way both sides jostle to get the best side of the deal. Slamming any kind of bashing of President Trump's attempt to woo diaspora by addressing a mega gathering in Ahmedabad, he said that modern politics is shaped on interest. There are two million diaspora voters in the U.S. who play an active role in United States.
