India has lowest Covid-19 cases per million in world: WHO

The WHO Situation Report 168 dated July 6, 2020, shows that India has one of the lowest cases of Covid-19 per million population. India’s cases per million population is 505.37 while the global average is at 1453.25.

New Delhi: The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Tuesday said that India has one of the lowest cases of Covid-19 per million population.

The WHO Situation Report 168 said that India's cases per million population is 505.37 while the global average is at 1453.25.

Countries like Chile have witnessed 15,459.8 cases of Covid19 per million population, while Peru, US, Brazil and Spain have 9070.8, 8560.5, 7419.1 and 5358.7 cases per million population respectively.

The WHO report further said that India has one of the lowest deaths per million population. India's cases of death per million population is 14.27 while the global average is more than its four times, 68.29.

UK has witnessed 651.4 cases of Covid19 related deaths per million population, while the metric for Spain, Italy, France, and US is 607.1, 576.6, 456.7 and 391.0.

Interestingly, India has also recorded 315.8 recovered cases per million population while the active cases per million in the country is at a low level of 186.3.

"Along with testing, contact tracing and house to house surveys have been intensified especially in the containment zones. States gave been specifically advised to ensure that at least 80 percent of new positive cases have their contacts traced and quarantined within 72 hours of confirmation of the positive case," the home ministry said.

Meanwhile, with a recovery percentage of 61.13, India's total recovery number now reached to 4,39,947. As many as 15,515 people have been recovered in the last 24 hours.

Presently, there are 2,59,557 active COVID cases in India with a difference of 1,80,390 cases between recovered and active cases.

India has also tested 1,02,11,092 samples till date through its 1115 labs.

Meanwhile, the Press Association has written a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, and Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javdekar demanding a judicial inquiry into the alleged suicide of Delhi based scribe Tarun Sisodiya.

Sisodiya who was tested positive for novel Coronavirus jumped off the fourth floor of the AIIMS Trauma Centre on Monday.
