New Delhi: Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Babul Supriyo on Tuesday attended an event held in New Delhi to celebrate Global Tiger Day to launch an action plan for cross-sectoral approach on tiger conservation and said that India accounts for 70 percent of world's tiger population.
The action plan was formulated by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Supriyo acknowledged the efforts made to conserve the tigers in the country and claimed that India will soon touch the mark 3,000 mark, so far as tiger population is concerned.
Following are some of the measures mentioned in the action plan:
• Developing a national-level strategy for management of interspace and dispersing tigers ensuring active collaboration of police Administration and Forest Department to ensure safe capture and movement of dispersing animals.
• Developing a state-level mechanism to ensure that victims of tigers attack get ex-gratia payment on time.
• Management of Crop trading herbivorous in agriculture fields in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture.
• Addressing livestock death due to predation by tiger and development of an insurance policy.
• Community Guardians (Bagh Mitras) for protecting biodiversity.
