Babul Supriyo launches multi-sectoral action plan on tiger conservation

Marking the occasion of Global Tiger Day, Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Babul Supriyo launched an action plan for cross-sectoral approach on tiger conservation on Tuesday. The plan has been formulated by the National Tiger Conservation Authority, along with Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

New Delhi: Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Babul Supriyo on Tuesday attended an event held in New Delhi to celebrate Global Tiger Day to launch an action plan for cross-sectoral approach on tiger conservation and said that India accounts for 70 percent of world's tiger population.

The action plan was formulated by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Supriyo acknowledged the efforts made to conserve the tigers in the country and claimed that India will soon touch the mark 3,000 mark, so far as tiger population is concerned.

Following are some of the measures mentioned in the action plan:

• Developing a national-level strategy for management of interspace and dispersing tigers ensuring active collaboration of police Administration and Forest Department to ensure safe capture and movement of dispersing animals.
• Developing a state-level mechanism to ensure that victims of tigers attack get ex-gratia payment on time.
• Management of Crop trading herbivorous in agriculture fields in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture.
• Addressing livestock death due to predation by tiger and development of an insurance policy.
• Community Guardians (Bagh Mitras) for protecting biodiversity.

Intro:New Delhi: "India will soon touch the mark of three thousand tigers. India has good number of Tigers across the world. 70 percent of World's tigers live in India," said Minister of State for Environment, Babul Supriyo, on Tuesday.


Body:The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change also launched an action plan for cross sectoral approach in tiger conservation. Considering the human tiger negative interaction as a major issue in the increase in the number of Tigers, a multi-prolonged approach is being mentioned in the action plan, including,

• Developing a national level strategy for management of interspace and dispersing tigers ensuring active collaboration of police Administration and Forest Department to ensure safe capture aur movement of dispersing animals.
• Developing a state level mechanism to ensure that victims of tigers attack get ex ex-gratia payment on time.
• Management of Crop trading herbivorous in agriculture fields in collaboration with Department of Agriculture.
• Addressing livestock death due to predation by tiger and development of an insurance policy.
• Community Guardians (Bagh Mitras) for protecting biodiversity.





Conclusion:While addressing the event of Global Tiger Day, the Minister also acknowledged the efforts made to further increase the number of Tigers and the technologies used to count the number of Tigers living in India.
