1. PM Modi to inaugurate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on Jan 9
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention to be held in a virtual format on Saturday. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is the flagship event of the Ministry of External Affairs and provides an important platform to engage and connect with overseas Indians. "In view of the sentiments of our vibrant diaspora community, the 16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is being organized on 9th January 2021, despite the ongoing Covid pandemic,", read a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Thursday.
2. WB Gov Dhankhar to meet Amit Shah in Delhi today
Ahead of assembly elections in West Bengal, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday evening arrived in New Delhi to hold a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday. "It is normal for a Governor to interact with Union Home Minister on various issues concerning the state of governance and other situations," Dhankhar told a news agency. He is scheduled to meet Shah at 12.45 pm today.
3. AIADMK General Council to meet on Saturday
With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections slated to be held in the next few months, the ruling AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) has called a meeting of its General Council and Executive Committee on January 9. The meeting was called by AIADMK's Coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam (OPS) and Joint Coordinator and Chief Minister Edapaddi K. Palaniswami (EPS) towards the end of the last month.
4. Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani to cut short travel time from today
In good news for those travelling between Delhi and Mumbai by rail, the Indian Railways has reduced, by over half an hour, the time of travel in the Rajdhani Superfast special while adding an additional stoppage from January 9. According to a Railway Ministry official, the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) will now reach Mumbai 35 minutes earlier.
5. Vice President to felicitate 5 Goa legislators today
Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu will felicitate five legislators, both former and serving, during his visit to the Goa legislative Assembly as part of the 'Legislator's Day' event on Saturday. The Goa Legislator's Day event is held every year on January 9, to coincide with the first session of the state legislative assembly (after the liberation of Goa from Portuguese rule), which began on January 9, 1964.
6. BJP to hold training camp in CM Nitish Kumar's home town
The BJP will hold a training camp for party members in Rajgir on Saturday, which prompted the opposition RJD to claim that the BJP wanted to "uproot" Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and was thus starting with his home town. The camp was scheduled a year ago when Sanjay Jaiswal was elected as state BJP President but had to be postponed due to coronavirus pandemic.'
7. Maharashtra BJP leaders meet JP Nadda to review poll blow
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Maharashtra unit leaders including former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Sudhir Mungantivar and the party's state president Chandrakant Patil on Friday met Party president JP Nadda in Delhi. The meeting was held to review the results of the recently concluded Legislative Council elections in Maharashtra.
8. Nadda to visit West Bengal today, will meet senior leadership
BJP President JP Nadda will visit Birbhum district in West Bengal on Saturday where he will hold a road show and also meet senior leadership in the state. Earlier on December 20, Union Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah attended a cultural programme at Visva-Bharati University in Shantiniketan in Birbhum.
