Amid the soaring cases of Coronavirus in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation at 4 pm today. The address comes a day after Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued new guidelines for Unlock 2 which will come into effect from July 1. Meanwhile, India and China will hold another level of military talks today as border tensions in Eastern Ladakh continue. Here is a heads up on the important national events to look out for today.

1. PM Narendra Modi to address the nation at 4 pm today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation today at 4 pm. The Prime Minister's Office, on Monday, tweeted, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 4 PM tomorrow." In his Mann Ki Baat radio address on Sunday, Modi said India is much better placed than many other nations with respect to the fight against the pandemic and that the country’s recovery rate is rising.

2. LAC Standoff: India, China to hold third round of Lt Gen talks today

Indian and Chinese militaries will hold another round of Lt General-level talks today in an attempt to de-escalate tension in eastern Ladakh and finalise modalities for disengagement of troops from the sensitive region, government sources said. It will be the third round of Lt General-level talks and it will take place in Chushul sector on the Indian side of Line of Actual Control. The meeting is scheduled to start at 10:30 AM, the sources said.

3. MP cabinet expansion likely today amid COVID-19 crisis

The much-awaited expansion of the single-member Madhya Pradesh cabinet under Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan might take place today at 5 pm at Minto hall in Bhopal. The cabinet has not been expanded since Chouhan took oath as chief minister for the fourth time on March 23, after his predecessor Kamal Nath of the Congress stepped down. However, Chouhan could not get time to set up the council of ministers amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

4. Fuel price hike: Congress to intensify agitation; protests planned across country today

After a day-long protest against the fuel price hike across the country on Monday, the Congress has again geared up to conduct protests at the Taluk, Tehsil and block levels from June 30 to July 4. Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal said that the party will also hold mass protests in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh for five days.

5. Union health Secy Preeti Sudan to review the present situation of India's COVID 19 containment zones today

Union health secretary Preeti Sudan will review the present situation of India's COVID 19 containment zones with the health secretaries, municipal commissioners, district collectors, and other concerned officials of the states on Tuesday.

6. Union Minister Piyush Goyal to hold a virtual rally in Himachal today

Union Minister Piyush Goyal will address the people of Himachal Pradesh today, in his virtual rally ahead of the elections in Mandi Lok Sabha constituency. The programme will be held at 5 pm in the BJP office at Shimla.
