"This is just the beginning of our protest programme. Today's response was good. Modern medicine doctors across India have come to the street opposing Government's move," said Dr Rajan Sharma, IMA President to ETV Bharat.

He said that the stand being adopted by the concerned authorities has put the life of countrymen at risk.

"The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) and Ayush Ministry is playing with the lives of the people. At such a critical situation, we request Prime Minister to intervene into the matter," said Dr Sharma.

He added that Ayurveda can never be mixed with modern medicine.

"We will continue our protest against the move. How can Ayurveda doctors conduct surgery? It's not possible to get trained on surgery in a span of two years time,' said Dr Sharma.

Later, in a statement, IMA said that thousands of doctors both in private and government sectors demonstrated on roads against the notification in Ayurveda surgery by the CCIM.

"IMA demands withdrawal of notification allowing Ayurveda postgraduates to perform modern surgery," he added.

The protest was registered in more than 10,000 spots across the country.

It may be mentioned here that IMA has given a call to withdraw all non-essential, non-Covid services between 6 am to 6 pm on Friday to register their protest against Centre's move.
