Telangana: The investigative committee of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Sunday interacted with the bereaved family of the Hyderabad veterinarian who was brutally murdered and gang-raped.
However, the team faced criticism from several sections for asking the late veterinarian's family to come to the Police Academy. Residents of the gated community where the family stays staged protests denouncing the NHRC direction.
The family too was reluctant to go initially. Today is the 12th day of her death and the family was observing a ritual. Her mother is said to be unwell, still, the police officials from Cyberabad Commissionerate convinced the family members to present its views before the NHRC.
The NHRC team also collected statements from the families of the four encountered youths Mohammed Arif, Jollu Naveen, Jollu Shiva and Ch Chennakeshavulu.
The apex human rights body in the country had taken cognisance of the encounter killings, saying it was a matter of concern and needed to be investigated carefully.
The team also met the two police officers -- sub-inspector Venkatesh and head constable Aravind Goud at a hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
