Hyderabad: During the holy month of Ramzan every year, the historic city of Hyderabad would witness the hustle and bustle associated with the holy month. Special prayers would be organised in Masjids (Mosques) and people would recite the holy Quran all the day long.
People from far and wide including the foreigners would throng the Mecca Masjid located in old city where they would relish the special delicacy Haleem and other such special dishes. People used to flock in numbers to break the fast together at Iftar and would offer congregational prayers as well. The business establishments would also remain open day and night.
However, this year the city is missing the buzz associated with Ramzan following the Coronavirus infused lockdown.
People mostly are offering prayers at their homes. No iftar parties are also being organised this year as well.
The Islamic scholars also advised the people to stay indoors and offer the prayers at their homes.
While congregational prayers in mosques will be missed, they say Muslims can still perform all obligatory prayers at home and spend most of the time in recitation of holy Quran, 'Zikr' or remembering Almighty Allah to seek His forgiveness and make special supplication for an early end to the pandemic.
However, this is not the first time that the historic city will miss the sheen of Ramzan. The hurricane which hit the city in 1908 caused the city to flood killing thousands of people. The same is being witnessed this year after 112 years.
During the fast, observed every day from dawn to the sunset, Muslims refrain from consuming any food, drinking water, smoking, and engaging in sexual relations.
