"Headline" hunt, Congress on PM's address

The Congress party has slammed the Prime Minister for his address, calling it a "Headline" for media. Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted his displeasure saying that the need of the hour was the return of migrants labourers walking back home. He said the lack of empathy and sensitivity for the migrant workers was disappointing.

New Delhi: Congress, on Tuesday, slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his address to the nation by calling it a "Headline" for media and said that the Nation and party will "respond" to it.

In one of his tweets, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, "Dear PM, What you said today gives the country and media a HEADLINE. When the "blank page" is filled with "Heartfelt Help of people", the Nation and Congress party will respond."

He further added in his another tweet, "The Mammoth heartbreaking human tragedy of migrant workers walking back home needed compassion, care and safe return. India is deeply disappointed by your utter lack of empathy sensitivity and failure to address the use of millions of migrant workers."

While responding to PM's address, Congress MP Manish Tewari said, "PM Modi's speech can be summed up in one word- Headline Hunting. A number- 20 lakh crores. No details."

On Tuesday, PM Modi announced a special economic package of Rs 20 lakh crores, nearly amounting to the 10 per cent GDP of the nation, emphasising on land, labour, liquidity and laws.

Prior to his address, former president of Congress Rahul Gandhi shared a video while appealing to PM to make announcements for migrant labourers. He said, "Mother India is crying today as crores of its children are walking hungry on streets. I want to urge the government to ensure their safe return to their home and also calls upon PM Modi to deposit rupees 7500 in their bank accounts as financial support to them."

However, the party's senior leader and former Union Minister Anand Sharma welcomed the announcements made by PM Modi regarding the special economic package of Rs 20 lakh crore and said that he'll wait for the details. "This will help in reviving the economy and reassuring for micro small and medium enterprises in urgent need of financial support for worker's wages. Hope the poor migrant workers who have lost livelihood and income and suffer the most will get relief," he added.
