New Delhi: Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections to be held on 21st October, announced Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora.
The counting of the polls will be on 24th October.
Chief Election Commissioner also announced the by-elections to 64 constituencies across Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Meghalaya, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana & Uttar Pradesh, to be held on October 21 and counting will on Oct 24.
BJP will seek re-election in Haryana and Maharashtra after its strong performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
In Maharashtra, Congress lost its government in the 2014 polls and BJP came into power in alliance with the Shiv Sena. This year, Congress has formed an alliance with Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party.
Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora led an EC team to Maharashtra on Tuesday and Wednesday to review poll preparedness.
Earlier, senior commission officers had visited Haryana for a similar exercise.
