Hisar (Haryana): Parasitology Department of Lala Lajpat Rai University (LUVAS) has established a laboratory, wherein diseases and parasitic infestation caused in animals can be detected using satellite technology system.
Reportedly, this is the only laboratory of its kind in India that has been established in Hisar district of Haryana. Dr. Sukhdeep Vohra, Head of the Department of Parasitology Department of Lala Lajpat Rai University said, depending on the climate, it will be possible to find in the laboratory through the satellite system, as to what kind of climate and at which places the snails and ticks and mites (kinds of parasites found in animals) are found. Because most of the diseases are transmitted in animals through snails and ticks.
Dr. Snehil Gupta of Parasitology Department added, "According to the climate satellite map of Haryana, snails are more common in Panchkula, Ambala, Karnal, Yamunanagar, animals also get more sick at these places."
He further said, "There are a lot of diseases caused by snail and ticks , insects in the stomach of animals causes weakness. Animal suffers from diarrhea, in fact Milch animals suffer the most. According to scientists, not only animals but humans may also develop diseases due to snails. There are larger numbers of snails in the stagnant water which increases with time. In the areas with high paddy cultivation, the number of snails is higher. Due to their larvae, this causes cercarial dermatitis or swimmer’s itch disease in the human foot. Due to which pimples and blisters appear on the feet. However, these tend to heal on their own within seven days. Therefore scientists recommend spraying medicines to avoid these problems.
With the help of Haryana Space Application Center (HARSAC) and Dehradun National Remote Sensing Center, the necessary items and data information related to the laboratory have been obtained. Head of the Department of Parasitology, Dr. Sukhdeep Vohra said that recently with the help of satellite system, snail disease has been diagnosed in Karnal and Ambala district of Haryana and for the prevention of the same they have further intensified the work.
