New Delhi: Even as some states reported a hike in excise duty on liquor, a flood of people went to liquor shops amid lockdown flouting social distancing norms. Reacting over the matter, Congress party alleged that the Government is lacking "micro-planning" while implementing it's own guidelines for national lockdown.

On Monday, the nation partially eased curbs over the movements amid lockdown, except for the worst-infection affected areas, in an attempt to restart its stalled economy due to which liquor shops were reopened after 40-days. However the move turned risky after brawls erupted outside liquor shops in the national capital.

Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev said, "No doubt lockdown is necessary, but as our former President had pointed out, it's just a pause button for this virus. Necessary steps needs to be taken to revive economy while not jeopardizing the health of people."

She further added, "The government is lacking in micro-planning while implementing its own guidelines. It should be done in coordination with State and Central government."

She also mentioned the rise in domestic violence cases during the lockdown. She said, "Being a Mahila Congress Chief, I would like to bring into notice that a number of cases of domestic violence have been increased during these days. Alcohol is not an essential commodity. Government should make sure that the poor people do not spend their entire amount of money, provided to them, to buy alcohol."

Blaming the Union Government over the financial burden on states, she said, "We all know that States are going through a financial distress due to COVID-19. Center had done injustice to the states by not giving their GST dues and now state governments are putting the entire burden over public by increasing the prices of petrol and diesel."
