New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday held union government responsible for the law and order situation that arose out of the confrontation between Delhi Police officials and lawyers in the national capital.
"It's a complete breakdown of law and order in the city. This is for the first time after independence that the police is sitting on a 'dharna'," Congress senior leader and former minister RPN Singh told ETV Bharat here.
He said Union Home Ministry and the minister concerned should have taken action to prevent the current situation.
"This comes under the Home Ministry. Nothing has been done to prevent it," he charged, adding that immediate action should be taken to fix the problem.
The Congress leader said people were suffering because of the "complete paralysis under the BJP rule".
There have been clashes between lawyers and police during the past two days in which at least 20 security personnel and several advocates were injured.
Meanwhile, thousands of police officials were protesting against lawyers in front of the police headquarters. Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik urged the protesting police personnel to attend to their work. They are protesting after a video of a lawyer thrashing police personnel outside Saket District Court went viral.
