New Delhi: The protests over farm laws from Parliament to the streets has seen the emergence of senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh in the forefront with the Modi government pitching him to counter the ‘anti-farmer’ campaign against the government launched by the Opposition ever since the Bills were passed by Parliament on September 20.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday reached out to farmers, mostly from protest-hit Punjab and Haryana, and met them at his residence here to discuss the new farm laws.

Singh along with Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar sat with the farmers for more than an hour and discussed at length all issues related to the farming sector, including the farm laws.

Farmers leader and Kisan Shakti Union president Chaudhary Pushpendra Singh was also present at the farmers meeting held on Tuesday. Where he gave some important suggestions in the meeting and also made some demands on behalf of the farmers in front of the ministers.

Speaking to ETV Bharat on Thursday, Pushpendra Singh said, "The law brought by the government was welcomed by all the farmers but at the same time demanded that the MSP should be guaranteed to the farmers. For this, legal provisions should be brought after which farmers will get the protection that no one will be able to buy their crop at a lower price than MSP and if it does, then punitive action will be taken against it."

"The government has already made it clear that the Minimum Support Price system will stay so now there should not be any fear and concern among farmers," he said.

"The demand for fixing the government price for milk on the lines of Amul was also put in the meeting. We also demanded to provide MNREGA labourers in the agriculture sector, increase the amount of Rs 6000 per year being given under PM Kisan Fund to 12 and then 24 thousand. The Kisan Credit Card limit should be increased to double. If its limit will be increased, then money will directly come to their hands and their condition will improve," he said.

Notably, last week, Rajnath Singh had assured farmers that the Minimum Support Price will stay and it will continue to rise. He had also said that he will talk to farmers to clear all their apprehensions about these three farm-related bills.
