Government announces innovation challenge for video conferencing solution

Under the Digital India Programme, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has announced a challenge for innovators and software product startups called the 'Innovation Challenge for Development of a Video Conferencing Solution.'

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Electronics and IT has launched an innovative challenge under the Digital India Programme and is named as ‘Innovation Challenge for Development of a Video Conferencing Solution’.

India has more than half-billion internet users and the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 has increased dependency on the internet and digital world. The concept of Work From Home (WFH), which was till now mostly synonymous with IT industry has become a household term.

With organizations having asked employees to WFH, video conferencing has become an integral part of daily life.

The challenge is to develop a 'Video Conferencing Solution' showing capabilities in terms of scalability, market reach and domestic value addition.

The solution will get a contract to deploy their solution for use by the Government of India, State Government entities for a period of 4 years.

The challenge is divided into 3 stages: Stage 1 is dedicated to ideation and teams will propose their innovative ideas of their solution. Top 10 teams would be selected from this stage. Each team will receive a funding of INR 5 Lakh to build the prototype.

In stage 2, the teams from stage 1 will be shortlisted. The challenge will be to build a prototype of solution and jury will shortlist 3 teams for third and final stage where the winner will get a fixed amount of INR 1 crore along with the certificate from the Minister of Electronics & IT towards deploying the solution for use by Government of India and State Governments for a year.

The further support of Rs 10 lakhs per year will also be given towards Operations & Maintenance, for a period of 3 years after the first year of deployment subject to terms and condition of the final contract to be signed.

Participants can be from the academic and industrial background but Participating teams must be an Indian company registered under Companies Act or comply with the definition of Start-up as per the latest notification of DIPP.

If Participating Team is not yet registered, they are still allowed to participate but are required to get registered if they get selected for the final submission.
