Condemning what BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur's statement about Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse in Lok Sabha, party leaders Jagdambika Pal, Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Pralhad Joshi on Friday also attacked the opposition for its behaviour towards Pragya even after she apologised twice over her remarks.

Union Minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi and MP from Balasore, said, "We all have regret over the death of Mahatma Gandhi. Prime Minister's stand is very clear on Gandhi. He has spread the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi in the whole world. We condemn the act of praising Gandhi's killer. Sadhvi has apologised for her actions and the opposition created a scene. Everyone should be given the right to put their view forward. Not allowing someone to speak is a crime. Speaker will decide whether Rahul Gandhi is right or wrong."

Echoing similar sentiments, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi accused the opposition of trying to make it a 'political issue'. He said, "Such behaviour of opposition was not correct after she had sought an apology. They should also think that she has been called a terrorist too in the House."

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Urban Development Jagdambika Pal said: "Sadhvi Pragya is a Member of Parliament, insulting her and calling her a terrorist means you're not abiding by the rules of the Parliament and disrespecting it."

Opposition leaders started creating ruckus in Lok Sabha as BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur makes a statement in the House. Opposition leaders raise slogans of 'Mahatma Gandhi ki Jai', and 'Down, down Godse'.

Earlier in the day, Pragya Thakur reiterated in Lok Sabha that she had not called Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse a 'deshbhakt' and expressed apology if someone had been hurt by her remarks.

Pragya, who is known for making controversial remarks, apologised for the second time in Lower House after the opposition members expressed dissatisfaction with her statement made earlier in the day.

Gandhi had on November 27 tweeted, "Terrorist Pragya calls terrorist Godse, a patriot. A sad day, in the history of India's Parliament.

Rahul will have to apologise for his remark against Pragya Thakur: Giriraj Singh

Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Friday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, seeking an apology from him for calling BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur a terrorist.

"Rahul Gandhi will have to apologise or he will face a privilege motion," said Singh.

When told that the Congress leader did not make the remarks inside the house, Singh said: "So, will he abuse any member if he did not say it in the House. Who gave him the right to do so without evidence?"

"Rahul Gandhi has no right to call any respected Member of Parliament a terrorist without any basis. He should immediately apologies to the country and the House," he had earlier tweeted.

Taking a swipe at the Gandhi scion, Singh said: "Rahul Gandhi, Gandhi Ke Naam Per Nakhoon Kata Kar Ke Shaheed Hona Chahte The."

The Minister also tweeted about Rahul Gandhi's terrorist remark where he slammed the leader.

"Rahul Gandhi has no right to call any respected Member of Parliament a terrorist without any basis. He should immediately apologies to the country and the House," he wrote.

Calling a woman a 'terrorist', worse than murder of Gandhi: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey on Friday moved privilege motion against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for calling BJP MP Pragya Thakur a 'terrorist'.

"Calling a woman a terrorist is worse than the murder of Mahatma Gandhi. Hence I request you to move privilege against Rahul Gandhi," said Dubey in Lok Sabha on Friday.

"Congress has made a government with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena called Nathuram Godse a patriot in 'Saamna'. Congress can go up to any extent for power and greed," he said.

The MP from Bhopal had triggered uproar during a discussion in the lower house on the Special Protection Group (Amendment ) Bill by DMK member A Raja, interjected with a remark purportedly in praise of Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse.

However, later on, she claimed that she was referring to Udham Singh. Speaker Om Birla expunged Thakur's remark from the record but opposition members protested outside the House.

Rahul Gandhi referred to Pragya Thakur's statement in the Parliament where she called Nathuram Godse a 'patriot'.

Thakur on Friday apologised in the Lok Sabha over her controversial remark praising Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse but also added that her statements made in the Parliament are being distorted.

In Lok Sabha, Thakur said that if her remarks have hurt anyone, she regrets it and tenders an apology. "I apologise if comments made by me has hurt the sentiments of anyone," she said, adding that Mahatma Gandhi's contributions can't be ignored. She also said that her statement has been twisted.

Facing opposition attack for her controversial comments on Nathuram Godse, BJP MP Pragya Thakur on Friday tendered an apology in Lok Sabha but said her remarks have been twisted.

The Bhopal MP said her comments were in a different context.

Thakur created a controversy on Wednesday with her remarks in the Lower House of Parliament during DMK member A Raja's narration of a statement by Nathuram Godse before a court on why he killed Mahatma Gandhi.

"If my comments have hurt in anyway, I regret and seek apology. My comments in the House have been twisted," she said without taking Godse's name Thakur also said that she respects and pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi for his contribution to the country.

The MP also said that she was dubbed as a terrorist by an MP despite being acquitted by the court.

"One member has publicly termed me as a terrorist, though I have been acquitted by the court," she said and added that making such remarks too were against the law.

Unsatisfied with Thakur's apology, the Congress strongly protested in the House and shouted slogans.

The principal opposition party also demanded suspension of Thakur from the House.

New Delhi: BJP leader Sadhvi Pragya Thakur was summoned by the party on Friday after she described Mahatma Gandhi's assassin, Nathuram Godse, as a patriot during Lok Sabha proceedings.

Sadhvi Pragya also met BJP leader Bhupender Yadav today.

Earlier, BJP working president JP Nadda had stated that the party has decided to bar the Bhopal MP from attending the party’s parliamentary meetings.

Sadhavi Pragya Thakur is the MP from Bhopal.

This is not the first time that Thakur has courted controversy because of her comments on Godse.

Campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls held in April-May, she had described Godse as a patriot, triggering a huge political storm, but had later apologised.

Prime Minister Modi had also condemned her remarks, saying those were bad and wrong for the society.

"She (Thakur) has sought an apology, but I would never be able to forgive her fully," he had said.
