Manohar Parikkar's health condition worsened and was termed as'extremely critical', according to a statement released by the Chief Minister's Office said on Sunday.
According to reports, Parrikkar's condition worsened a day after being admitted to the hospital.
Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar, born in Mapusa in Goa on December 13, 1955, was the first IIT alumnus to serve as an MLA.
He has been the chief minister of Goa since March 14, 2017.
Parrikar joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at a young age.
He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Goa in 1994. He become the chief minister of Goa for the first time on October 24, 2000.
On June 5, 2002, he was re-elected and served another term as the chief minister.
In November 2014, Parrikar was chosen as the Minister of Defence.
Parrikar studied at Loyola High School, Margao and Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award by IIT Bombay in 2001.
Talking about his personal life, he has two sons Utpal Parrikar and Abhijit Parrikar. His wife Medha died in 2001.
Parrikar was suffering from a pancreatic ailment and has been in and out of hospitals in Goa, Mumbai, Delhi and New York since February 2018.
He was reportedly admitted to the cancer department of AIIMS in New Delhi on February 1.
On October 27, 2018, the Goa government announced that CM Manohar Parrikar has pancreatic cancer.
His public appearances with a tube in his nose drew severe criticism from the opposition for retaining the chief minister against his will.
Parrikar headed the coalition government supported by the Goa Forward Party (GFP), the Maharashravadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and three Independent MLAs.
The MGP had previously threatened to pull out from the BJP-led government on certain issues including crisis in the mining industry.
The party has also been demanded that senior leader Sudin Dhavalika should be appointed as the chief minister.
