New Delhi: According to Ministry of Defence, Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Thursday briefed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on developments in Jammu and Kashmir and on Indo-Pak border.
The Armed forces are in a state of high alert and closely monitoring the situation, the sources said.
Based on reports, the overall situation in the valley is under control.
Meanwhile, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir to take stock of the security situation even as all the three services are on high alert to deal with any fallout of the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories and withdrawal of special status to the state.
In the run-up to the decision to reorganize the state, Doval had reviewed the situation and additional troops were sent to the Kashmir Valley following his meetings with state administration officials. After Doval, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also likely to tour the area.
The restrictions were imposed before the government's move to abrogate provisions of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcation of the state into union territories.
The government is also considering relaxing restrictions in the Kashmir Valley in view of Bakrid or Eid-al-Adha on August 12. However, it is not clear whether the relaxation will be given fully or partially.
