New Delhi: The 21-day lockdown having now been extended by 18 days, has compelled people to stay indoors. Utilizing the lockdown period, many people are trying to develop their culinary skills.
Many of them have started using earthen pots, like their ancestors, to cook their daily meals.
In the ancient period, when there were no steel or metal utensils, people used to cook food in earthen pots and over stoves made from mud and firewood as fuel.
While firewood and earthen stoves have become obsolete, many households are utilizing the lockdown period to experiment cooking their meals in earthen pots. In fact, this has become a fad among many households.
Those using earthen pots claim that the food cooked in them is better in quality and tasty too. They also point out that one of the factors which made the older generation live a longer and healthy life was because they ate food cooked in earthen pots and on earthen stoves with firewood as fuel.
Today, the stress is on food which excites the taste buds instead of the nutrition value.
Going back to the ancient tradition of cooking in earthen pots has become quite popular of late, particularly during the lockdown period when people find it difficult to kill time within the confines of their home.
