Farmer unions on Tuesday decided to attend a meeting with the Centre as protesters continued their agitation at Delhi border points against the government's new farm laws.
Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Monday had invited leaders of farmer unions for talks on Tuesday, instead of December 3, citing the COVID-19 pandemic and cold.
"In our meeting, we have decided to accept the central government's offer to hold talks at 3 pm today. Representatives of protesting farmers will attend the meeting with Union ministers," farmer leader Baljeet Singh Mahal said.

Security forces keep wary eye as UP farmers rally at Ghazipur
Security forces continued to mount a strict vigil at the Ghazipur entry point on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border as scores of farmers from western Uttar Pradesh rallied on Monday at the spot.
Around 250 farmers hailing from Meerut, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad etc are camping at the Ghazipur border at present in support of thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana who have dug in their heels at the Singhu and Tikri borders in Haryana.
Even as farmers rallied peacefully or just loitered around on the Ghazipur border, a number of police personnel were busy recording their every movement on their mobile phones to keep the authorities posted on the situation.
More than 150 personnel of Delhi Police, Rapid Action Force and the Border Security Force are currently deployed on the Ghazipur border. Security arrangements were tight on Monday as compared with a day earlier.
Apart from putting up barricades on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, police had put up concrete slabs across the highway to prevent farmers from moving ahead, even though the protesters have made it clear that they would stay put till instructions from their leaders on the next course of action.
"We are monitoring the situation closely," Delhi North-East Additional DCP Manjit Sheoran said.
"At present, we do not have any input as to whether more farmers from Uttar Pradesh will reach the Ghazipur border or not. But if it happens, we are ready to handle the situation," the police officer said.
"We have told the farmers that if they wish to go to the Burari ground, we will escort them to that place; but they are not convinced."

Farmers' protest enters fifth day, traffic disrupted in city
The ongoing protests by thousands of farmers against the Centre's new farm laws entered the fifth day on Monday, with the protestors threatening to block all five entry points to the national capital
Rejecting the Centre's offer to hold talks once they move to the Burari ground, the farmers said they will not accept any conditional dialogue and have called a meeting to discuss their next course of action later in the day.
Farmers, who had reached Nirankarai Samagam Ground in Burari on Saturday, continued their protest there.
Traffic continued to be disrupted in the city due to the protests.
Taking to twitter, the Delhi Traffic Police on Monday alerted commuters to take an alternate route since Singhu and Tikri borders continued to remain closed.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had appealed to the farmers to shift to the Burari ground and had said the Centre was ready to hold discussions with them as soon as they move to the designated place.
A meeting of over 30 farmer groups was held to discuss Shah's offer for talks before the scheduled date of December 3 once they move to Burari in the city, but the thousands of protesters had refused to budge and spent another night in the cold at the Singhu and Tikri border points.
Their representatives had said that Shah's condition that they shift the protest is not acceptable and claimed Burari ground is an "open jail".
Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla in a letter to 32 farmers organisations sent on Saturday cited the cold conditions and the COVID-19 outbreak and said the farmers should move to the Burari ground where adequate facilities have been made for them.
"As soon as you shift to the ground at Burari, the very next day a high-level committee of union ministers will hold talks at Vigyan Bhavan with the representatives of all farmers unions, with whom dialogue had taken place earlier, he had said in the letter.

Meanwhile, Union Ministers Amit Shah and Narendra Singh Tomar held a meeting at BJP chief JP Nadda's residence on late Sunday night to discuss the ongoing farmers' protests, sources said.
Farmers have been protesting at various places in Delhi and Haryana and have rejected the central government's offer to hold talks on December 3 saying that imposing conditions for starting a dialogue is an insult to them.
Around 32 farmer organisations, mostly from Punjab, and a few farmers from Gujarat and Maharashtra as well managed to reach Delhi on Friday and assembled at the border areas to continue their protest.
The farmers are protesting against The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Delhi Police has beefed up security on Burari ground, the designated spot for farmers' protest on the outskirts of the national capital, even as Surjeet Singh Phul, the Punjab unit chief of Bharatiya Kisan Union Krantikari (BKU), termed the venue as an "open jail".
Vijayanta Arya, DCP North West, said that basic facilities are being provided to the farmers staying at the Burari ground.
"Burari ground has been designated for the farmers who are coming from different parts of the country to protest. Police have been deployed here for their security. We are also in touch of civic authorities to provide facilities like water, sanitation, electricity and food," she said.
"Delhi Police is asking the farmers at state borders to come here. Around 500 to 600 farmers are here and more are coming. We are ensuring the safety and security of every farmer staying here," she added.
Meanwhile, farmers continued their protest at Ghazipur-Ghaziabad (Delhi-UP) border against the new farm laws amid security deployment. Farmers were seen trying to break the barricades at Ghazipur in the national capital on Sunday evening, with the police resorting to lathi-charge.
Tikri border on Delhi-Bahadurgarh road remains closed for traffic movement amidst the ongoing farmers' protest.
Farmers amassed on the borders of the national capital under the banner of the BKU refused to move to Burari in New Delhi, where the Centre has invited them for talks.
Phul, during a press conference, said the condition put forward for talks is an insult to the farmers. "We will never go to Burari. It is not a park but an open jail. Delhi Police told the Uttarakhand farmers' association president that they'll take them to Jantar Mantar but instead locked them at Burari."
Meanwhile, Sombir Sangwan, Haryana Khap Pradhan and Dadri MLA, announced that all khaps Sunday unanimously decided to support the protesting farmers by all means.
"Khaps will gather tomorrow (Monday) and proceed towards Delhi. We request the Centre to reconsider the three new farm laws. Everyone has a right to express themselves," Sangwan said.
Home Minister Amit Shah had on Saturday offered to hold talks with the protesting farmers if they moved to the Burari ground.

Farmer unions on Tuesday decided to attend a meeting with the Centre as protesters continued their agitation at Delhi border points against the government's new farm laws.
Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Monday had invited leaders of farmer unions for talks on Tuesday, instead of December 3, citing the COVID-19 pandemic and cold.
"In our meeting, we have decided to accept the central government's offer to hold talks at 3 pm today. Representatives of protesting farmers will attend the meeting with Union ministers," farmer leader Baljeet Singh Mahal said.

Security forces keep wary eye as UP farmers rally at Ghazipur
Security forces continued to mount a strict vigil at the Ghazipur entry point on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border as scores of farmers from western Uttar Pradesh rallied on Monday at the spot.
Around 250 farmers hailing from Meerut, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad etc are camping at the Ghazipur border at present in support of thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana who have dug in their heels at the Singhu and Tikri borders in Haryana.
Even as farmers rallied peacefully or just loitered around on the Ghazipur border, a number of police personnel were busy recording their every movement on their mobile phones to keep the authorities posted on the situation.
More than 150 personnel of Delhi Police, Rapid Action Force and the Border Security Force are currently deployed on the Ghazipur border. Security arrangements were tight on Monday as compared with a day earlier.
Apart from putting up barricades on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, police had put up concrete slabs across the highway to prevent farmers from moving ahead, even though the protesters have made it clear that they would stay put till instructions from their leaders on the next course of action.
"We are monitoring the situation closely," Delhi North-East Additional DCP Manjit Sheoran said.
"At present, we do not have any input as to whether more farmers from Uttar Pradesh will reach the Ghazipur border or not. But if it happens, we are ready to handle the situation," the police officer said.
"We have told the farmers that if they wish to go to the Burari ground, we will escort them to that place; but they are not convinced."

The ongoing protests by thousands of farmers against the Centre's new farm laws entered the fifth day on Monday, with the protestors threatening to block all five entry points to the national capital
Rejecting the Centre's offer to hold talks once they move to the Burari ground, the farmers said they will not accept any conditional dialogue and have called a meeting to discuss their next course of action later in the day.
Farmers, who had reached Nirankarai Samagam Ground in Burari on Saturday, continued their protest there.
Traffic continued to be disrupted in the city due to the protests.
Taking to twitter, the Delhi Traffic Police on Monday alerted commuters to take an alternate route since Singhu and Tikri borders continued to remain closed.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had appealed to the farmers to shift to the Burari ground and had said the Centre was ready to hold discussions with them as soon as they move to the designated place.
A meeting of over 30 farmer groups was held to discuss Shah's offer for talks before the scheduled date of December 3 once they move to Burari in the city, but the thousands of protesters had refused to budge and spent another night in the cold at the Singhu and Tikri border points.
Their representatives had said that Shah's condition that they shift the protest is not acceptable and claimed Burari ground is an "open jail".
Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla in a letter to 32 farmers organisations sent on Saturday cited the cold conditions and the COVID-19 outbreak and said the farmers should move to the Burari ground where adequate facilities have been made for them.
"As soon as you shift to the ground at Burari, the very next day a high-level committee of union ministers will hold talks at Vigyan Bhavan with the representatives of all farmers unions, with whom dialogue had taken place earlier, he had said in the letter.

Tikri, Singhu borders shut for traffic movement amid farmers' protest
Tikri and Singhu borders have been closed for any traffic movement as the farmers continue their protest against the Centre's farm laws, said Delhi Traffic Police on Monday.
"Tikri border is closed for any traffic movement. Available open borders to Haryana are following--Borders Jharoda, Dhansa, Daurala Jhatikera, Badusari, Kapashera, Rajokri NH 8, Bijwasan/Bajghera, Palam vihar and Dundahera borders," Delhi Traffic Police tweeted.
The traffic police has also urged people to take an alternate route as the Singhu border is still closed from both sides.
"Singhu Border is still closed from both sides. Please take an alternate route. Traffic has been diverted from Mukarba Chowk and GTK road. Traffic is very very heavy. Please avoid outer ring road from the signature bridge to Rohini and vice versa, GTK Road, NH 44 and Singhu borders," Delhi Traffic Police said in another tweet.
Meanwhile, Union Ministers Amit Shah and Narendra Singh Tomar held a meeting at BJP chief JP Nadda's residence on late Sunday night to discuss the ongoing farmers' protests, sources said.
Farmers have been protesting at various places in Delhi and Haryana and have rejected the central government's offer to hold talks on December 3 saying that imposing conditions for starting a dialogue is an insult to them.
Around 32 farmer organisations, mostly from Punjab, and a few farmers from Gujarat and Maharashtra as well managed to reach Delhi on Friday and assembled at the border areas to continue their protest.
The farmers are protesting against The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has said that the Central government is ready for talks with the farmers' unions on December 3.

Delhi Police has beefed up security on Burari ground, the designated spot for farmers' protest on the outskirts of the national capital, even as Surjeet Singh Phul, the Punjab unit chief of Bharatiya Kisan Union Krantikari (BKU), termed the venue as an "open jail".
Vijayanta Arya, DCP North West, said that basic facilities are being provided to the farmers staying at the Burari ground.
"Burari ground has been designated for the farmers who are coming from different parts of the country to protest. Police have been deployed here for their security. We are also in touch of civic authorities to provide facilities like water, sanitation, electricity and food," she said.
"Delhi Police is asking the farmers at state borders to come here. Around 500 to 600 farmers are here and more are coming. We are ensuring the safety and security of every farmer staying here," she added.
Meanwhile, farmers continued their protest at Ghazipur-Ghaziabad (Delhi-UP) border against the new farm laws amid security deployment. Farmers were seen trying to break the barricades at Ghazipur in the national capital on Sunday evening, with the police resorting to lathi-charge.
Tikri border on Delhi-Bahadurgarh road remains closed for traffic movement amidst the ongoing farmers' protest.
Farmers amassed on the borders of the national capital under the banner of the BKU refused to move to Burari in New Delhi, where the Centre has invited them for talks.
Phul, during a press conference, said the condition put forward for talks is an insult to the farmers. "We will never go to Burari. It is not a park but an open jail. Delhi Police told the Uttarakhand farmers' association president that they'll take them to Jantar Mantar but instead locked them at Burari."
Meanwhile, Sombir Sangwan, Haryana Khap Pradhan and Dadri MLA, announced that all khaps Sunday unanimously decided to support the protesting farmers by all means.
"Khaps will gather tomorrow (Monday) and proceed towards Delhi. We request the Centre to reconsider the three new farm laws. Everyone has a right to express themselves," Sangwan said.
Home Minister Amit Shah had on Saturday offered to hold talks with the protesting farmers if they moved to the Burari ground.
