New Delhi: Amid the nationwide lockdown imposed to flatten the curve of Coronavirus infection, Central and respective State Governments have ensured to deliver all the necessary requirements essential for the survival of people from all walks of life.

ETV Bharat reaches destitute village, reveals govt's preparedness amid lockdown

In order to check the ground reality of these measures, ETV Bharat reached the Chilla village situated on an island near Yamuna Khadar area of Delhi.

The area is an island in the Yamuna river where 40 members of ten families reside. They grow vegetables and eke out a living by working as daily labourers. These people have had no source of income since the lockdown came into effect. They are unable to grow vegetables as they are unable to procure seeds as the shops are closed.

These families say they have not got any help from the government. They have neither received food nor ration. Only the RSS affiliated Seva Bharati has come to their aid by providing them with food and ration.

Yamuna Khadar falls under the Patpadganj assembly constituency of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. This area also comes under the East Delhi Parliamentary constituency of BJP MP Goutam Gambhir. It is from here that former mayor Bipin Bihari Singh was elected to the East Delhi Municipal Corporation.

The people here live in very difficult conditions. They have to take a boat to reach the market to buy the essentials. Being labourers, they do not have the money to live in rented house. They live in shanties on the Yamuna river bank. They are surviving only because the Seva Bharati organisation gives them two square meals.

People say that political leaders remember them only in times of elections to seek votes. No leader has bothered to come to them when the people are living in very difficult conditions. The government administration too has not provided them with any help.
