Banda (UP): Photographs of employees sitting at their desks wearing helmets in the state's electricity department created a stir among the netizens on Monday.
The employees stated they wore helmets to shield themselves from the debris that keep falling from the ceiling.
In order to avoid any untoward incident, such as the roof crashing down on them, the employees justified as to why the helmets were of utmost importance.
The building is used as a research facility by the State Electricity Board. Every now-and-then, mud, dust and portions from the roof keep falling over the employees. As a result of which, they are forced to wear helmets to save themselves from any danger.
Another employee added the authorities were informed of this grim situation in spite of which, no actions were taken to restore the wrecked building.
A media agency on Monday tweeted photos of employees at a government building seated at their desks. The tweet read: Employees of electricity dept wear helmets to protect themselves from any untoward incident while working in a dilapidated office building. One of the employees says, "It's the same condition since I joined two years ago. We've written to authorities but there is no response".
Not only was this a cause of concern for employees in the building, customers too had expressed their concern over the building falling into disrepair.
Reportedly, portions of dust from the ceiling had fallen over customers as well. The employees had also indulged in fights over this issue with customers on various occasions.
Ironically, the employees informed of the customers' inconvenience and authorities didn't pay any heed to this as well.
Earlier, the employees sought help from authorities in writing as well as verbally too, but to no avail.
