New Delhi: The Embassy of Ecuador in India today issued a categorical denial of reports claiming that self-styled fugitive ‘godman’ Nithyananda is on their country’s soil and seeking setting up a sovereign nation.

Last week reports emerged that rape-accused Nithyananda allegedly fled India via Nepal and bought an island in Ecuador and set up his own ‘sovereign Hindu country’ on it.

The embassy of Ecuador, a country in South America’s west coast near Trinidad and Tobago, today further added that Nithyananda could be in Haiti even as Indian investigative are on the lookout for him.

‘The Embassy of Ecuador categorically denies the statement, wherever published, that self-styled Guru Nithyananda was given asylum by Ecuador or has been helped by the government of Ecuador in purchasing any land or island in South America near or far from Ecuador,’ said a formal statement today.

"Moreover, Ecuador denied the request for international personal protection (refuge) made by Mr. Nithyananda before Ecuador and later on, Mr. Nithyananda left Ecuador presumably on his way to Haiti," the statement further added.

While the specific location of Nithyanand’s reported private island nation of ‘Kailash’ remained a mystery, its website says it's a "nation without borders created by dispossessed Hindus from around the world who host the right to practice Hinduism authentically in their own countries".

However today the Ecuador embassy urged media to not name the country in any report related to the controversial godman. According to the ‘Kailaasa’ website, the "new nation" also offers a temple-based ecosystem, the science behind the third eye, yoga, meditation, universal free health care, free education, free food for all among others.

Through the website, Nithyananda has invited people to become citizens of his "independent nation" and donate to run it in a way that has shades of similarity with controversies surrounding Osho Rajneesh in the past.

According to Karnataka police sources, Nithyananda may have fled India in late 2018 after jumping bail. Ministry of External Affairs sources added that his passport that expired in September 2018 had not been renewed and he may have used fake passport and travel documents to escape the law. India does not have a diplomatic mission in Ecuador.

"All the information, whatever, which is published in digital and print media in India, is based on the information which allegedly has been sourced from https://kailaasa.org, a website which is supposedly maintained by Mr. Nithyananda or by his people, henceforth all digital or print media houses should refrain from citing Ecuador in any form in all pieces of information related to Mr. Nithyananda," said the Ecuador embassy statement.

Rajashekharan alias Nithyananda, a native of Tamil Nadu has been accused of multiple cases of rape, sexual assaults and child abuse in his ashram near Gujarat.
