New Delhi: Congress on Friday launched a sharp attack on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over Ballia incident, where a man was shot dead by BJP MLA's aide in front of local administrative officials.

The opposition once again targeted Yogi govt over deteriorating law and order and said, "The law and order situation of the state is in complete shambles while CM is busy with his photoshoot.

While addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, "This is the most populated state of our country and the law and order is in complete shambles. A man in broad daylight can shoot somebody in the presence of the SDM and CO. MLA, who is apparently his close aide, jumps to his defence and says- this was an act of self-defence."

She further added, "The Chief Minister is busy getting a photoshoot done while there is a shootout happening in broad daylight in the presence of the police. The reality is that the Yogi Adityanath has to take responsibility for these incidents. CM has shown laxity on every issue as far as law and Governance is concerned."

However, CM Yogi has ordered the suspension of officials present on the spot at the time of the incident and an FIR has also been registered against 15-20 people on the complaint of the victim's brother.

In addition to this, Congress also raised the issue of rising in crimes against women in UP, demanding the immediate resignation of CM Yogi Adityanath. The party alleged that BJP leaders give political patronage to these criminals which is why the crime rate is increasing day by day in the state.

"Our demand has constantly been that if Yogi Adityanath is not being able to control the crime, if he is not being able to control the law and order in the state, then please, resign and make way for someone who will, because UP is witnessing a jungle raj like never before," said Supriya Shrinate.

Earlier today, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also tweeted over the matter, saying, "In the last one week, 13 horrific incidents of crime against women have taken place in UP. According to the reports, in 4 incidents the victim was killed or the victim committed suicide. This state of women's security is disturbing. CM does not have time to hold a special session on this but the photo session is on."
