Sharp decline in Hajj applications

Applications for Hajj received this year is only 600 while, last year, 650 applications were filed in a day. Delhi State Hajj Committee official said that increase in prices and COVID-19 pandemic would have led to the decline.

New Delhi: The number of applications for Hajj has witnessed a sharp decline this year with only 600 applications received in a month. Online applications for Hajj 2021 started on November 7, but almost a month later, only 650 applications have been received from Delhi.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Tameel Mohsin Ali, Deputy Officer, Delhi State Hajj Committee said that in previous years, around 600 applications were received on a single day, but this year only 650 applicants have applied yet.

Mohsin Ali said that people are still hesitant about Hajj this year and some people are not applying for Hajj this time due to high prices while some people are hesitant due to COVID-19 pandemic. It is worth mentioning that last year, all the pilgrims whose names were drawn in the lottery were not allowed to go for Hajj.
