Crime branch raids Maulana Saad's residence, farmhouse in UP

Raids were conducted at Tablighi Jamaat chief Maulana Saad's residence in Shamli and at his farmhouse in Uttar Pradesh. Officials are searching for him for Nizamuddin Markaz case.

New Delhi: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Thursday raided Tablighi Jamaat chief Maulana Saad's residence in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh.

Official sources said that they also searched his farmhouse at Kandhla in the district.

The personnel of the crime branch have already been advised to get him tested for coronavirus the movement they catch hold of him.

Saad, who despite warnings concerning coronavirus, organised a religious congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz last month, has been evading police for almost a month now.

As per the Union Home Ministry, over 4,200 positive COVID-19 cases have links to people who attended the Nizamuddin Markaz event in March last.

The sources said that he would be questioned only after getting tested for the contagious virus that has killed a large number of people across the world.

On March 31, the police lodged an FIR against seven people, including Saad for holding the religious congregation in violation of the government orders against large gatherings to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Later, the Indian Penal Code Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) was added to the FIR.
